PEARL - Study Design

PEARL is a translational program to examine the impacts of peer support on behavioral changes, quality of life and metabolic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. 30 motivated people with diabetes maintaining good glycemic control will undergo a 4-week training program to become per leaders. Each of them will be assigned 10 peers randomized to the peer support group. The peer leaders will provide regular motivational support, remind patients to use TLC to augment their knowledge in diabetes and learn how to problem solve. Peer leaders, assisted by nurse educators, will also arrange regular activities e.g. sharing sessions, outings, games to further motivate peers to change behavior and manage negative emotions.
